Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, met on Tuesday evening with Vena\u0302ncio Mondlane, candidate for the presidential elections of October 9, 2024, as part of the inclusive political dialogue with all social strata. The meeting, held in an atmosphere of institutional respect and patriotic spirit, focused on promoting peace, reconciliation and stability in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

At the end of the meeting, President Chapo highlighted the importance of dialogue as an essential instrument for building a peaceful and prosperous country. \u201cPeace, reconciliation, forgiveness, harmony and brotherhood among Mozambicans are very important. That is why our objective is to dialogue, dialogue, dialogue with the aim of achieving and better consolidating peace, reconciliation because, as you know, there is only development when there is peace and security, and we can only achieve peace by talking to all social strata\u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n

The Head of State recalled that, on 5 March, a Political Commitment for an Inclusive National Dialogue was signed, stressing that this process involves all Mozambicans, without exclusion. \u201cAs Mozambicans, we thought it was important to have a meeting, to talk and, based on that, to be able to continue working to bring peace to the country\u201d, said the President, stressing that Mozambique needs to consolidate peace and cultivate a culture of love for one\u2019s neighbour.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the President of the Republic reiterated his commitment to national unity and reconciliation among Mozambicans, highlighting that the future of the country depends on the contribution of all its citizens, regardless of their political convictions.<\/p>\n

Vena\u0302ncio Mondlane, in turn, described the meeting as \u201cproductive\u201d and \u201cpositive\u201d, despite acknowledging the existence of points of disagreement. \u201cIn my case, in particular, I was very concerned about the issue of people who are being held in detention. We needed to have a clear vision, with deadlines, of how we are going to deal with this issue,\u201d declared the presidential candidate.<\/p>\n

Mondlane also expressed concern about the escalation of violence that occurred after the handshake on March 23, and presented a report to the Attorney General\u2019s Office with evidence of these cases. \u201cWe also brought this report precisely to clarify whether those cases that occurred, of various types of violence, were premeditated, and how we can overcome this,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Despite the challenges, Mondlane revealed that six agenda items were discussed, on which there was mutual understanding, including the definition of dates, deadlines and focal points for their implementation. \u201cWhat is important from now on is that we monitor this, which is for the benefit of our own population,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n

President Chapo reaffirmed the continuity of his strategy of keeping open channels of listening and consultation with all relevant actors in Mozambican society. \u201cWe will continue to hold more meetings with all Mozambicans to continue working and developing our country,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n

The meeting was also an opportunity for Vena\u0302ncio Mondlane to share his vision and proposals on alternative ways to accelerate the country\u2019s economic and social development, reiterating his openness to dialogue in the best interests of the nation.<\/p>\n

Both parties stressed the importance of promoting inclusive and constructive dialogue as a fundamental pillar for strengthening democracy and jointly seeking sustainable solutions to the challenges of national development.<\/p>\n

This meeting is part of a series of initiatives by the President of the Republic to consolidate peace, strengthen national cohesion and ensure a stable and participatory political environment, which is essential for Mozambique\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n

Holding this meeting reinforces the message that Mozambique is taking concrete steps towards cultivating a political culture based on mutual listening, inclusion and respect for differences. The President of the Republic\u2019s gesture of engaging in dialogue with all segments of society, including presidential candidates, represents an unequivocal commitment to political stability and the construction of lasting consensus for the benefit of the Mozambican people.<\/p>\n
