Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Sunday reported just one new case of the Covid-19 respiratory disease.<\/p>\n

According to a Sunday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 950,505 people have been tested for the coronav\u00edrus that causes Covid-19, 699 of them in the previous 24 hours.<\/p>\n

698 of the tests gave negative results, and the one person who tested positive was a Mozambican man diagnosed in the northern province of Nampula, The number of cases of Covid-19 diagnosed in Mozambique now stands at 151,368.<\/p>\n

With just one case, the positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) on Sunday fell to only 0.1 per cent. The positivity rates over the previous few days were 1.1 per cent on Saturday, 0.9 per cent on Friday, and one per cent on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Over the same 24 hour period, one Covid-19 patient was discharged from hospital in Maputo, and two new cases were admitted (one in Maputo and one in Manica).<\/p>\n

The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 facilities rose from six on Saturday to seven on Sunday. Five of these patients were in Maputo, one in Tete and one in Manica.<\/p>\n

Only one person was reported as fully recovered from Covid-19 on Sunday, in the central province of Zambezia. The total number of recoveries now stands at 149,299, or 98.6 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The number of active Covid-19 cases was 131, the same as on Saturday. The geographical breakdown of the active cases was as follows: Cabo Delgado, 44; Maputo city, 36; Niassa, 17; Nampula, 11; Gaza, seven; Inhambane, five; Tete, four; Zambezia, three; Manica, three; and Maputo province, one. Sofala remained the only province without any Covid-19 active cases.<\/p>\n

No deaths from Covid-19 were reported on Sunday, and so the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remained 1,934.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry release, a further 69,169 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 in the previous 24 hours. 2,592,259 people are now fully vaccinated against the disease, and 4,801,571 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n

Despite the falling positivity rate, the Ministry warned against any complacency, and urged continuing use of preventive measures against the spread of Covid-19, including frequent washing of hands, social distancing (of at least two metres), and the wearing of masks in public places.<\/p>\n
