{"id":871,"date":"2021-06-15T16:21:30","date_gmt":"2021-06-15T16:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/?p=871"},"modified":"2021-06-15T16:21:30","modified_gmt":"2021-06-15T16:21:30","slug":"more-than-1000-families-resettled-in-chipanga-and-cateme-received-duats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/community\/more-than-1000-families-resettled-in-chipanga-and-cateme-received-duats","title":{"rendered":"More than 1,000 families resettled in Chipanga and Cateme received DUAT\u2019s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AfricaPress-mozambique:<\/strong> Vila de Moatize Municipal Council, in partnership with the mining company Vale Mozambique, recently handed over more than 1,000 Land Use and Benefit Right Titles (DUATs) to families resettled in Cateme and Chipanga.<\/p>\n<p>The delivery of the DUAT titles took place in a phased manner, initially benefiting more than 290 families in Chipanga and, later, 712 families from Cateme.<\/p>\n<p>In Chipanga, the DUATs were handed over to the community on May 27 in a ceremony attended by the president of the municipal council , Carlos Portim\u00e3o, representatives of Vale Mo\u00e7ambique and community leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the occasion, Portim\u00e3o thanked Vale for its support, highlighting the importance of the DUAT as a guarantor of land ownership for the communities. \u201cThe acquisition of DUATs is a very important milestone for these families, as these are documents that give the land ownership power for any eventuality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>At Cateme, the handover ceremony took place last Saturday, June 5th, as part of the World Environment Day celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by the head of the Governor\u2019s Office, Romeu Ant\u00f3nio (representing the governor); the Permanent Secretary of the District of Moatize, Salvador Zacarias; Vale sustainability manager for Africa, Marco Fr\u00f5es; plus community leaders and the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>For the beneficiary families, the event is of great relevance, as it guarantees their occupation of the land.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe feeling is indescribable. For the first time, I\u2019m going to live on land that no one will be able to usurp. Even when I\u2019m no longer here, my descendants will be able to live here, safe from disputes,\u201d Chipanga resident Ant\u00f3nio Separado said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking for the families of Cateme, Gilo Egidio highlighted the significance of the DUAT in possible disputes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe DUAT is fundamental in solving land-related problems in our communities, and this partnership between the government and Vale shows that working together leads to positive results,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The mining company Vale believes that the community obtaining DUATs demonstrates the company\u2019s intention to continue working to improve its relationship with the communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVale\u2019s investments in Chipanga neighbourhood are not limited to financing the acquisition of DUATs.
