Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>A gas exploration project in Mozambique run by Italy\u2019s ENI and Angola\u2019s state oil company Sonangol were among winners of awards presented at African Energy Week, held in Cape Town this week.<\/p>\n

Sonangol was named National Oil Company of the Year wihle ENI\u2019s The Coral South LNG Project was named African Gas Monetization of the Year.<\/p>\n

\u201cNational oil companies (NOC) have and continue to play a fundamental role in reducing energy poverty while ensuring pro-business investment environments, energy security, and leadership within the hydrocarbons sector,\u201d organisers said in a statement. \u201cThis award serves to honor the NOC that has undertaken enormous strides to electrify their region through innovative operational and revenue management strategies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis award serves to honour national oil companies that have made enormous efforts to electrify their region through innovative operational and revenue management strategies,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

As for the Coral South project, organisers stated that the award \u201crecognizes companies and projects that are defying the odds of COVID-19 and industry restrictions, promoting gas monetization in Africa to close the energy poverty gap and drive the continent\u2019s energy transition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lifetime Achievement Awards went to Frank Fannon, former US assistant secretary of state for energy resources, to Yuri Sentyurin, Secretary-general of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, and Timipre Sylva, Nigeria\u2019s minister of state for petroleum resources and former governor of Bayelsa State, \u201cfor the courageous steps they have taken to promote the welfare of African citizens and improve the functioning and profitability of energy and hydrocarbon markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

African Energy Week was organised in Cape Town by the African Energy Chamber.<\/p>\n
