Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Qatar\u2019s minister of state for mineral resources and energy, Ahmad Al Sayeg, on Friday said that his country wants to cooperate with Mozambique in the sector, taking advantage of the enormous potential that the two states have in this area.<\/p>\n

The Qatari leader was speaking during a meeting with Mozambique\u2019s minister of mineral resources and energy, Max Tonela, in Moscow.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see great opportunities, to cooperate in energy sectors and not only,\u201d Sayeg said.<\/p>\n

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the plenary meeting of the Kimberley Process, an international body responsible for supervising the diamond trade.<\/p>\n

Ahmad Al Sayeg said that Qatar\u2019s long experience in extracting and exporting natural gas offered a field for collaboration with Mozambique, a country that is preparing to be a major world player in this area, due to its huge reserves of natural gas.<\/p>\n

Sayeg said that the two states could also cooperate in other areas, such as agriculture and technology.<\/p>\n

To realise the desire for bilateral cooperation, the Qatari minister will visit Mozambique next year.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Asian leader assured support for Mozambique\u2019s accession to the club of diamond exporting countries, under the Kimberley Process scheme.<\/p>\n

Despite growing international pressure to abandon the use of fossil fuels, the Mozambican government maintains that natural gas will be a crucial source for energy transition as it is the least polluting of the fossil resources.<\/p>\n
