{"id":9036,"date":"2021-11-16T17:41:59","date_gmt":"2021-11-16T17:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/?p=9036"},"modified":"2021-11-16T15:48:19","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T15:48:19","slug":"floating-platform-starts-its-voyage-to-mozambican-waters-aim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/floating-platform-starts-its-voyage-to-mozambican-waters-aim","title":{"rendered":"Floating platform starts its voyage to Mozambican waters \u2013 AIM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The floating platform to be used in the production and export of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the Coral South gas field, within Area Four of the Rovuma Basin, off the coast of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado is due to start on Tuesday its voyage from South Korea to Mozambican waters.<\/p>\n<p>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi and his Korean counterpart, Moon Jai-in, attended the christening ceremony on Monday for the floating LNG platform built by Samsung Heavy Industries, after the Korean shipbuilder won a 2.5 billion dollar deal to build the offshore production platform in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The platform has been named the Coral-Sul FLNG, after the name of the gas field.<\/p>\n<p>Moon said at the ceremony at the Samsung Heavy Industries\u2019 shipyard in Geoje, \u201cThe world is focused on LNG. It has the lowest carbon emission among fossil fuels, and with its high power generation efficiency, LNG is the best low-carbon energy source to replace coal and crude oil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added optimistically, \u201cLNG that will be mass-produced by Coral-Sul FLNG will be of great help on the journey to global carbon neutrality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samsung Heavy built the FLNG facility under a consortium with engineering companies Technip from France and JGC from Japan. The Coral Sul gas field is being developed by a consortium headed by the Italian energy company ENI.<\/p>\n<p>The floating platform has the capacity to produce 3.4 million metric tonnes of LNG per year. It is the first of its kind to be operated in Africa. Only four floating LNG platforms have been built, all of them in Korean shipyards.<\/p>\n<p>The platform is 414 metres long, 65 metres wide and 39 metres tall. It is an integrated unit that will extract, liquefy, store and assure the delivery of its production. It also has a residential complex capable of hosting about 350 employees.<\/p>\n<p>ENI discovered the Coral South gas field in May 2012.
