Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Economy and Finance of Mozambique, Adriano Maleiane, said yesterday in parliament that the 2022 State Budget (OE) should be focused on the recovery of the economy after the slowdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis State Budget is already entering the recovery phase, after we were very focused in 2020 and 2021 on mitigating the effects of Covid-19,\u201d Maleiane said.<\/p>\n

The finance minister was speaking at a hearing of the Commission on Planning and Budget (CPO) of the Assembly of the Republic on the proposed laws of the Economic and Social Plan (PES) and the 2022 State Budget.<\/p>\n

Minister Maleiane said that the executive would work towards economic growth of 2.9% in 2022, after a drop to 1.3% this year, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to guarantee a 2.9% growth, with all sectors of the economy growing,\u201d Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Economy and Finance stressed.<\/p>\n

Agriculture, industry, infrastructure and tourism could boost the Mozambican economy in 2022, he added.<\/p>\n

Maleiane pointed out that the PES and OE forecast revenues of 293 billion meticais (\u20ac3.9 billion) and expenditure of 450 billion meticais (\u20ac6 billion), resulting a deficit of 157 billion meticais (\u20ac2.1 billion), or about 14% of GDP.<\/p>\n

Of the total expenditure, 86.5% goes to education, health, the defence and security forces, agriculture and infrastructure, good governance and democracy, and salaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the budget which was possible, but we know it won\u2019t solve all the problems,\u201d the minister emphasised.<\/p>\n
