Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>A person of Bangladeshi nationality is being held by the authorities in Nampula over an alleged attempt to obtain a Mozambican identity (ID) card by presenting a false birth certificate.<\/p>\n

The counterfeit document was allegedly issued at the Civil Registry Office in Mugovolas.<\/p>\n

The detention of the man, who has resided in the country since 2012, was possible thanks to the acuity of officials at the National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC) data collection post at which he presented himself.<\/p>\n

Asked to clarify the origin of the document, he said that someone \u201ctook care of it\u201d in exchange for 10,000 meticais, DNIC spokesman Alberto Sumbane told a press conference today.<\/p>\n

Sumbane said that forms requesting Residence Rights for Foreigners [DIRE] status were also found in the detainee\u2019s possession.<\/p>\n

Sumbane lamented the increase in cases of illegal attempts to obtain identification documents in Nampula province, often using intermediaries, also complaining that some DNIC users were not observing appointment times for the issuing of ID cards.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe introduced the scheduling platform for issuing the ID in order to combat Covid-19, but some people arrive one or two hours before or after the scheduled period, which hinders the service,\u201d he said, recommending that users arrive at least 15 minutes before the appointment time.<\/p>\n

Contrariwise, Sumbane observed that some people were not being attended to because they went to ID data collection points without pre-booking.<\/p>\n
