Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Road accidents continue to stain national roads with blood and claim lives in the Republic of Mozambique. This week\u2019s press release from the General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) reveals that, from the 6th to the 12th of November, 34 people lost their lives as a result of 18 traffic accidents across the country.<\/p>\n

The document shared yesterday does not reveal the locations where the accidents took place, but it is known that 16 lives were lost in an accident in Manhi\u00e7a district, Maputo province, on the 6th of the current month.<\/p>\n

On average, five persons a day died from traffic accidents in the week under reference. Speeding is indicated as the main cause of these incidents.<\/p>\n

In this same week, the PRM claims to have seized 201 grams of heroin, 64.2 kg of cannabis sativa and 51 cannabis sativa plants. It also claims to have recovered five vehicles, 88 motorbikes, 26 mobile phones, 17 televisions, seven computers and 17 head of cattle from the hands of criminals.<\/p>\n

Police also report seizing seven firearms (three shotguns, three pistols and one short gun) and 14 rounds of ammunition (12 for pistol and two for short gun) in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza, Sofala and Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

Still in the same week, the police detained 1,179 individuals \u2013 574 for border violations, 291 for illegal immigration and 314 for committing common crimes. In relation to the measures of the State of Public Calamity in force in the country until 20 December, police dispersed 29,805 groups of crowding individuals.<\/p>\n

During this same week, the police report the apprehension of 2,872 vehicles for various offences.<\/p>\n
