Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Two hundred trees of various species were planted this Saturday along Eduardo Mondlane and Joaquim Chissano avenues in the country\u2019s capital as part of the \u2018Caring for our Common Home\u2019 initiative.<\/p>\n

The environmental conservation project is promoted by the Mozambican Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace in partnership with Standard Bank and the Municipal Council of Maputo.<\/p>\n

Maputo City Councillor for Spatial Planning, Environment and Urbanisation Silva Magaia used the occasion to highlight the need to replace the trees with a view to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n

The Archbishop of Maputo, Dom Francisco Chimoio, castigated those citizens who had previously removed newly planted trees, calling for everyone to get involved in preserving the environment.<\/p>\n

Launched last September, the \u2018Caring of our Common Home\u2019 initiative aims to plant more than 1,000 trees along 20 thoroughfares in the Mozambican capital.<\/p>\n
