{"id":96087,"date":"2025-12-23T04:33:30","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T04:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/chapo-describes-mozambican-diaspora-as-strategic-reserve"},"modified":"2025-12-23T05:11:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T05:11:17","slug":"chapo-describes-mozambican-diaspora-as-strategic-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/chapo-describes-mozambican-diaspora-as-strategic-reserve","title":{"rendered":"Chapo describes Mozambican diaspora as \u201cstrategic reserve\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ap-article-header-tag\"> <strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong> <\/span>Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Friday declared that Mozambicans living abroad are \u201ca strategic reserve of great value\u201d for the economic and social development of the country.<\/p>\n<p>At an end-of-year ceremony in which he welcomed representatives of Mozambican communities living abroad, Chapo called for greater involvement by the Mozambican diaspora in the country\u2019s development effort.<\/p>\n<p>He said the meeting was taking place at a special moment in the nation\u2019s life, marked by the celebration of the 50th anniversary of independence and by the start of a new cycle of governance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong our priorities\u201d, Chapo said, \u201cwe reaffirm the priority of the Mozambican diaspora in the development of our country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that Mozambique \u201cis undergoing far-reaching political, economic and social transformations which demand national unity, social cohesion and trust in the institutions of the State\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed the \u201cnational inclusive dialogue\u201d currently under way and warned \u201cwithout peace, there is no development, and without development there is no peace\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Chapo admitted that the \u201cnegative effects\u201d of the post-election violence and rioting from October 2024 to March 2025 has shaken the confidence of investors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe face the challenge of repairing the damage caused\u201d, said Chapo. \u201cRecovering the trust of investors is a priority task to which we are fully committed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Chapo stressed the vast potential of the country and declared that its natural resources should be exploited sustainably, and guided towards job creation, especially for young Mozambicans.<\/p>\n<p>Persistent challenges facing the country, he added, include the eradication of poverty, the promotion of equal opportunities, universal access to basic services, and protection for the most vulnerable strata of the population.<\/p>\n<p>Chapo said that the government\u2019s Diaspora Policy, adopted in 2024, is \u201ca fundamental strategic instrument\u201d for structuring the participation of Mozambicans living abroad. \u201cThis instrument expresses the firm purpose of the government in ensuring that the diaspora becomes a strategic actor in the continual and sustainable development of Mozambique\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked the Mozambican communities abroad for their support for humanitarian causes, their promotion of Mozambican culture, and for the contribution of their remittances to the national economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-article-footer-note\">Find more news and analyses on <span class=\"ap-highlight-country\">Mozambique<\/span> on the <span class=\"ap-highlight-brand\">Africa Press<\/span> website<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique.
