The Mozambican government has established the North\u2013South Railway Line Office to oversee a significant railway infrastructure project. This initiative aims to connect existing railway lines and enhance links between agricultural, industrial, and tourism sectors, promoting national unity and regional integration within SADC. The project is expected to take six to eight years to complete.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong> <\/span>The Mozambican government has decided to establish the North\u2013South Railway Line Office (Gabinete da Linha Ferrovia\u0301ria Norte-Su-GLFNS), an entity whose mission will be to coordinate the project for the construction of the future railway infrastructure that is expected to link the country continuously.<\/p>\n

This is a megaproject whose implementation is estimated to take between six and eight years. The new office will operate as the technical body responsible for promoting, developing and coordinating the execution of the initiative.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the usual press briefing following the 4th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers, the government spokesperson and Minister of State Administration and Public Service, Inoce\u0302ncio Impissa, said the project will connect existing railway lines, planned extensions and new routes.<\/p>\n

According to him, the railway interconnection aims to establish an efficient link between strategic agricultural, industrial, mining and tourism production hubs.<\/p>\n

In addition to strengthening national unity, the future line is also expected to contribute to regional integration within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is already infrastructure in the country: one that links almost the entire northern corridor, another in the central corridor and another in the southern corridor. However, the three infrastructures are not interconnected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For this reason, new sections will be built to connect the south\u2013centre and centre\u2013north segments, covering points defined by the Executive as strategic in terms of productive capacity.<\/p>\n

\u201cFortunately, there is already an initial base to work on,\u201d added Impissa, stressing that the country has repeatedly faced connection problems between the north and the south.<\/p>\n

Among the main responsibilities of the GLFNS is the coordination of all phases of the project, including technical, economic and financial feasibility studies;<\/p>\n

the mobilisation and structuring of financing; as well as the attraction of strategic investors.<\/p>\n

The newly established Office will also be responsible for ensuring the preparation and updating of environmental and social impact studies, as well as for managing public tenders for the selection of consultants, contractors and development partners.<\/p>\n

The GLFNS will also provide technical advice to the Executive and ensure that the project complies with all legal, environmental and social standards.<\/p>\n
