In B\u00fazi, Mozambique, 64 farmers have received irrigation kits and agricultural inputs through the Mangwana programme. This initiative, supported by various organizations and the Netherlands, aims to improve food systems and security. The support will enhance productivity for the upcoming agricultural season and aid recovery from flood damage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong> <\/span>Sixty-four farmers from the Bu\u0301zi district in Sofala have benefited from irrigation equipment and agricultural inputs provided under the Mangwana programme.<\/p>\n

The initiative is being implemented by a consortium represented by the Age\u0302ncia de Desenvolvimento do Vale do Zambeze, Tecnoserve, Resilie\u0302ncia Moc\u0327ambique, and the Agencia de Desenvolvimento Economico da Provi\u0301ncia de Manica, with funding from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, aiming to strengthen food systems and food and nutritional security.<\/p>\n

According to Sofala Province Governor Lourenc\u0327o Bulha, who presided over the ceremony yesterday at the Guara-Guara Administrative Post in Bu\u0301zi, the 64 beneficiaries are part of a group of 184 smallholder farmers in the province to be supported by the Mangwana programme, with an estimated total of ten million meticais, granted as a subsidy with a 5% co-payment by the producer.<\/p>\n

The Sofala Governor said that the equipment and inputs will boost the productive capacity for the second season of the 2025\/2026 agricultural campaign and help recover areas lost due to floods and inundations.<\/p>\n

Governor Bulha handed over 170 irrigation systems, five atomizers, 34 hand carts, 65 knapsack sprayers, 50 watering cans, six water tanks, 189 rolls of 100 metres each of copolymer tubing, and 189 rolls of 100 metres each of flexible tubing.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director-General of the Zambeze Agency, Celso Cunha, assured that the smallholder farmers benefiting from the irrigation kits will receive technical assistance from the Mangwana programme team, in coordination with local authorities.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that in Sofala Province, Mangwana covers the districts of Bu\u0301zi, Beira, Dondo, Nhamatanda, and Gorongosa.<\/p>\n

\u2018Editor\u2019s note: <\/b>Mangwana\u2019 means \u2018tomorrow\u2019 or \u2018the future\u2019 in Shona, a language spoken in Zimbabwe and parts of central Mozambique\u2014namely Manica and Sofala provinces along the Beira corridor.<\/p>\n

The Mangwana programme is part of broader efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and food security in Mozambique, particularly in regions affected by climate-related challenges. With funding from international partners, the initiative focuses on providing essential resources to smallholder farmers, who play a crucial role in the country’s agricultural sector. The programme’s name, meaning ‘tomorrow’ in Shona, reflects its goal of fostering sustainable agricultural practices for future generations.<\/p>\n
