Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Over the next four years the Swiss Government will increase its financial support for Mozambique to 1.9 billion meticais (297 million US dollars, at the current exchange rate) which will be invested in areas such as economic development, service delivery and decentralisation.<\/p>\n

This news was announced by the Swiss Ambassador to Mozambique, Olivier Burki, this Wednesday, 1 December, in Maputo<\/p>\n

\u201cThough Switzerland supports several development projects across the country, the provinces of Nampula, Niassa and Cabo Delgado, in which about one third of the whole population lives, will remain our priority,\u201d Burki said.<\/p>\n

The next Swiss Cooperation Programme for Mozambique, he added, will also increase its finance to humanitarian projects understanding the growing demand for basic human necessities appeared as a result of natural disasters and civil conflicts.<\/p>\n

The global goal of the Swiss Cooperation Programme for Mozambique is poverty reduction, where economic development and job creation would remain the cornerstone.<\/p>\n

Switzerland, he stated, will continue supporting selected projects and intervention policies to improve the business environment, and support micro farmers and medium companies in reaching new business opportunities that would help them to recover from economic shocks.<\/p>\n

The President of the Mozambique-Swiss Chamber of Commerce (MSCC), told Cub of Mozambique, that \u201cthe MSCC are proud to be connected to and represent Switzerland\u2019s private sector in Mozambique and we welcome the growing partnership between our countries\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cTeaming up with the private sector from day one is vital for successful cooperation. Strong ties between government institutions, development programmes and private business can make economic growth more significant,\u201d said Adrian Frey.<\/p>\n

\u201d So far, the private Swiss investments have created over 10 000 jobs in Mozambique. If we support and guide the Swiss Government in their programs we can create more career opportunities,\u201d Frey added.<\/p>\n
