Africa-Press – Namibia. Senior managers of the Namibian Correctional Service met in Swakopmund this week for a biannual management retreat aimed at strengthening leadership and improving service delivery.
The retreat took place at the Swakopmund Mile 4 Hotel. It started on Monday, 23 February 2026 and ended on Wednesday.
NSC commissioner general Raphael Tuhafeni Hamunyela led the gathering. He described it as a space for reflection and strategic focus.
He said the goal was to create time for reflection, renewal, and refocusing so that leaders could provide quality service to the Namibian people.
Hamunyela stressed the importance of leadership development and teamwork. He urged managers to reflect on personal responsibility and self-commitment. He reminded them that progress depends on individuals holding themselves to higher standards.
The programme included presentations by Bishop Wahl F. Abraham. He discussed topics such as motivation, leadership, communication, responsibility and accountability.
He also spoke about personal branding and team building. He encouraged leaders to stay disciplined, read widely, think beyond borders and set clear personal and professional goals.
On the second day, managers participated in team-building activities. The exercises tested listening skills, patience and problem-solving under pressure. The activities supported the themes of the Transformational Leadership Management Workshop.
Participants engaged in group discussions and interactive sessions throughout the retreat. The focus remained on strengthening leadership capacity and improving organisational performance within the corrections service.
As the retreat closed on Wednesday, the emphasis stayed on preparing leaders to guide the institution forward with clear direction and shared responsibility.
