MTC Marketing Indaba Kicks Off

Africa-Press – Namibia. ICT minister Emma Theofelus has underscored the critical role of branding and marketing professionals in shaping Namibia’s image, while acknowledging the unique challenges involved in communicating government work.

Speaking at the opening of the second MTC Branding and Marketing Indaba in Windhoek yesterday, Theofelus highlighted the complexity of marketing government initiatives. She noted that the size of government institutions, coupled with diverse public opinions, makes it difficult to communicate effectively and consistently. “As government spokesperson, I appreciate the work you do. Marketing government is not easy, and it comes with many challenges,” she said, directly recognising the efforts of industry professionals.

The minister called for stronger collaboration across the marketing, advertising and public relations sectors, urging stakeholders to adopt a unified approach in promoting Namibia. She stressed the importance of aligning messaging to position the country competitively on the global stage.

Theofelus emphasised that government’s priority is to brand Namibia as a destination of choice across multiple fronts, including investment, tourism, talent attraction and local products. In this regard, she encouraged delegates to think beyond individual campaigns and consider how their work contributes to a broader national narrative.

“For us as government, our investment is in branding Namibia as a destination of choice,” she said.

She further challenged participants at the Indaba to reflect on their role in building a cohesive and strong national identity, reinforcing the idea that effective marketing goes beyond commercial objectives and plays a part in shaping how the country is perceived internationally.

The three-day event, hosted under the theme ‘Marketing from the Heart,’ brings together professionals to exchange ideas and explore industry trends, with a strong emphasis this year on collaboration and collective impact.
