Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) has appointed Richard Ibwima as its new executive for port operations.
His appointment is effective from 17 January.
The company made the announcement in a statement on their website on Tuesday.
Prior to his appointment, Ibwima was employed as terminal manager, after joining Namport in December 2015.
He rose through the ranks having started his career at Namport as a protection services officer in the risk-management department.
Ibwima later moved to the cargo services department as cargo and planning coordinator, and later as port operations coordinator at the container and general cargo terminals between 2004 and 2009.
The new operations executive was later promoted to the container terminal, where he remained until his temporary departure from Namport in April 2012.
Ibwima returned to Namport in April 2015, following a three-year stint in Sudan, where he was employed as a terminal project manager.
He returned to Namport where he worked as the manager of port terminal operations planning until January 2016, and was later transferred to the position of manager for terminals, which he held until his latest promotion.
According to Namport, Ibwima worked on strategic projects such as the port automation and port expansion projects since his return in 2015.
He served as a project subject matter operations lead, expertise he continues to render to date.
“Richard has gained extensive leadership experience in the industry, and we are confident that he will play a significant role in cultivating the high-performance culture which we are striving for in the port operations function . . .
“We congratulate Richard on his appointment, and wish him success in his new role as we strive towards achieving our vision to be the best-performing seaport in Africa,” the statement read.
