Africa-Press – Namibia. A total of four records were broken at the fourth Bank Windhoek Long Course Gala of the season which was held at the Olympia swimming pool over the weekend.

The 12-year-old Lorenzo Esterhuizen of Aqua Swimming and Fitness Club set a new 50m backstroke record in the boys 11-12 year old category with a time of 32,19 seconds, to break the former mark of 32,35 that was set by Jose Canjulo in 2018.

The 10-year-old Ryan Steyn of Dolphins Swimming Club set a new 50m backstroke record in the Boys 9-10 year category with a time of 36,25 seconds, which took nearly a second off the previous record of 37,22 set by Nathan Bock in 2020.

The Aqua Swimming and Fitness Club set a new record in the women’s 13 to 14 year old 400m freestyle relay with a time of four minutes 34,44 seconds, which smashed the previous record of 4:45,31 by more than 10 seconds.

The Aqua team consisted of Jessica Humphrey, Alexandra Kapapa, Quelin Benade and Reza Wersterduin.

The Dolphins team that came second also beat the previous record with a time of 4:42,37. The Dolphins team consisted of Maja Brinkmann, Ariana Naukosho, Chloe Rossouw and Michaela Ohm.

Oliver Ohm of Dolphins produced the best performance in terms of international fina points, as he obtained 601 fina points for winning the Boys 15-16 100m freestyle in 55,56 seconds.

He also produced the fourth best performance of the day with 572 Fina points for his time of 2:02,81 in the boys 15-16 200m freestyle event.

Arkell Wellmann of Dolphins obtained 581 fina points for his time of 56,20 seconds in the Boys 19 and over 100m freestyle, while Ronan Wantenaar of Aqua also obtained 581 fina points for his time of 28,76 seconds in the Boys 19 and over 50m backstroke.

Reza Westerduin of Aqua obtained 568 fina points for her time of 32,56 in the girls 13-14 50m backstroke, while another Aqua swimmer, Jessica Humphrey obtained 558 Fina points for her time of 32,76 seconds in the Girls 13-14 50m backstroke event.

The next event on the swimming calendar is the Bank Windhoek National Championships which will be held in Windhoek from 24 to 27 February.
