Africa-Press – Namibia. CABINET on Tuesday approved the transfer of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) 27 000 metric tonnes of uncaught 2021 freezer horse mackerel quota, to be caught in 2022.

The fisheries minister, Derek Klazen, tabled the submission.

The DRC bought the quota last October through the annual governmental objectives quota auction, however, it could not be caught because the DRC was unable to secure a vessel over a period of three months. The quota requires at least four 25 000 metric tonne capacity vessels.

Cabinet also approved the transfer of 24 017 metric tonnes of local companies’ uncaught quota.
