Africa-Press – Namibia. POLICE at Keetmanshoop fired rubber bullets and tear gas on Tuesday to deter community members from looting a beer truck that had overturned at the town.
//Kharas crime investigations coordinator Chrispin Mubepo said the truck overturned at the traffic circle leading to Lüderitz and Grunau as the weight of the load shifted to one side.
Locals rushed to the scene and alerted others to come and collect beer.
“The crowd became huge and uncontrollable, hindering traffic and posing a danger also to onlookers. Therefore the police had to use crowd control measures to disperse the crowd,” said Mubepo.
He said the ownership and value of the beer consignment is not yet known.
