Africa-Press – Namibia. THE death of assistant referee Shilixuleni Kornelius has left a significant void, the Namibia Football Association (NFA) said yesterday.

Kornelius (29) died on Thursday following an unspecified short illness.

Soccer world governing body Fifa recently accredited 11 international match officials amid a huge backlog of suitably qualified match officials in Namibia.

The Oshana Regional Football League described Kornelius as a “passionate, beloved and fearless” individual.

“The passing of the late Shilixuleni Kornelius is, without a doubt, untimely, and her experience and exposure as a Fifa-accredited assistant referee creates a serious setback for the NFA,” said NFA general secretary Franco Cosmos.

“On behalf of the Fifa referee committee and the worldwide family of football, I wish to extend our condolences to you, to the Namibia Football Association community and, most importantly, to Ms Shilixuleni Kornelius’ family, friends and loved ones,” said Pierluigi Collina, Fifa’s chairman of the NFA referees committee.
