Africa-Press – Namibia. THE number of Covid-19 active cases which stood at 14 000 at the height of the fourth wave in December 2021 has now dwindled to 175 infections throughout the country. This is according to the latest health update by the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

In its update for 9 March 2022, the health ministry announced 19 positive cases from (1 093) representing a 1.7% positivity ratio. Of the total confirmed cases, 17 are new cases and two are reinfections.

The sex distribution of the cases is ten females of which eight are new cases and nine males which are all new cases. Among the confirmed cases are four students and two learners. One case received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, three are fully vaccinated and 15 cases are not vaccinated.

Of the active cases, 23 cases are currently hospitalized across ten regions. Three hospitalized cases are fully vaccinated, while 20 cases are not vaccinated constituting 87.0%. One case is in ICU and is not vaccinated. The ministry further shared that it has not recorded any deaths during the period under review.

By 8 March 2022, a total of 436 073 people aged 18 years and older have received one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, representing 30% of the target population (1 471 973). A total of 126 502 have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, while 250 352 adults have received two doses of other vaccine types. Hence, 376 854 adults have completed their vaccination, translating to 26% of the target population. File photo for illustrative purposes.
