Africa-Press – Namibia. SINCE Friday, Swakopmund has been abuzz with preparations for Namibia’s 32nd Independence celebrations held on Monday, with people streaming to the coast for the long weekend and visibly enjoying the easing of Covid-19 regulations as face masks are hardly seen.
Namibia’s 32nd Independence Day celebrations will start at 08:00 on Monday at the Vineta Stadium in Swakopmund and Informanté will share the live-stream on Facebook. President Hage Geingob will deliver the keynote address at the event that is by invitation only.
Preparations at the Vineta Stadium were well underway early Sunday morning, with cleaners, technicians and officials getting ready for the celebrations held under strict compliance with public health and Covid-19 regulations, limiting gatherings to 1 000 people.
“Many people are unhappy because they may not attend the celebrations but we are complying by the rules. We, therefore, want to take the celebrations to the people through all means possible, such as the media and news platforms, as this is a momentous occasion we should celebrate as a nation,” an official said.
