Africa-Press – Namibia. KAISOSI settlement residents at Rundu held a peaceful demonstration on Friday, over the mysterious death and alleged murder of 20-year-old Tavares Baubiruus Ferru.

In a petition read by Isaac Maseka on behalf of the disgruntled community members, they said Ferru’s alleged murder was not the first mysterious incident the community has had to deal with, after 11 people from Kaisosi have gone missing without a trace.

The group is disappointed about how the matter has been handled by the police, since the alleged suspect is still roaming the streets of Kaisosi. Ferru disappeared last month while in the company of his brother. They allegedly went to Calai in Angola together. A few days later on 21 March, his body was discovered floating in the Okavango River, mutilated and burned with acid.

In the petition delivered to Kavango East governor Bonifasius Wakudumo, the concerned community members are asking that the culprits be brought to book, and that their families be removed from the settlement. They are also demanding a satellite police station at Kaisosi.

“We are demanding that the Namibian Police dig deeper into the matter and demobilise criminals in the community. Failure to fulfil the above-mentioned demands, we are going to take the law into our hands,” read the petition.

“I have listened to your petition. now we need to engage various stakeholders such as the regional police to understand what is going on with regard to this case,” said Wakudumo, who promised to revert back to the group within seven days.

Wakudumo also advised the group not to consider taking the law into their own hands, and cautioned them to respect the rule of law despite their anger and frustration.
