Africa-Press – Namibia. UGANDA concluded their Namibian tour with a three-wicket victory on Wednesday to tie their 50-over series 1-1.
In an exciting finish to the series, Namibia scored 267/7 before Uganda reached the winning target for the loss of three wickets with three balls in hand.
After being sent in to bat, Namibia got off to a steady start with most of their top order batsmen making solid contributions.
Stephen Baard scored 19 (4×4) and Lohan Louwrens 44 (7×4), while Craig Williams was unfortunate to miss his century when he was dismissed for 90 off 107 balls (5×4, 4×6).
Further down the order Karl Birkenstock scored 73 off 77 balls (7×4, 2×6) and Ruben Trumpelmann 22 off 19 as Namibia reached a competitive total.
For Uganda, Cosmas Kweyuta, Dinesh Nakrani, Riazat Ali Shah and Henry Ssenyondo each took one wicket.
Uganda got off to a strong start with Simon Ssesazi and Emmanuel Hasahya putting on 66 for the first wicket and although Hasahya (19) and Arnold Otwani (1) were dismissed in quick succession, Ssesazi led Uganda’s onslaught with solid support from the rest of Uganda’s middle order.
Ssesazi went on to score 82 off 86 balls (7×3, 3×6), while Kenneth Waiswa scored 20, Fred Achelam 22, Dinesh Nakrani 45 and Riazat Ali Shah 43 not out off 36 balls as they reached 269/7 with three balls to spare.
For Namibia, Jan Frylinck took 2/51, while Nicol Loftie Eaton, Louis Peters, Birkenstock and Tangi Nuuyoma took one wicket each.
