Africa-Press – Namibia. THE office of the Hardap governor hosted a prayer and song night on Friday to commemorate Easter by praying for a prosperous nation, unity, and a common purpose.

The South West Africa People’s Organisation, the Landless People’s Movement, and the People’s Democratic Movement together with the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pentecostal churches, and the Rhenish Mission Church, among others, gathered to urge one another to grow in unity and lift each other up in society.

The regional governor Solomon April said this is a year of re-imaging as a nation, to take stock of one’s economic and social welfare by analysing and reviewing the different areas of one’s life and charting an improved way forward.

He said the challenge facing Namibians is the spirit of competition, whereby people trample upon each other to become successful instead of growing together by assisting one another.

“We only preach of unity, prosperity and being united, but we don’t live out these principles as a people. Therefore, as a divided people, we are continuously going backwards,” said April.

The governor said the evidence is seen in the daily struggles of the people with life becoming harder. He said the worst part is that those at the lowest economic level are the ones affected negatively the most.

The night concluded with performances led by Paul Kisting, Esme Katikuru, mass choirs and brass bands from various churches.
