Africa-Press – Namibia. PRESIDENT Hage Geingob urged the Namibian youth to make the struggle for economic emancipation their primary objective and stated this “cannot be achieved through mere rhetoric, but only through meticulous planning, effective strategy and constant hard work”.
Geingob made these remarks at the SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) Central Committee’s official opening meeting that took place on Saturday and stated that as a progressive youth political wing the SPYL must spearhead the revolution towards economic emancipation.
He further stated that the youth of the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) always played an integral role in the advancement of the party’s agenda, both before and after Namibia gained independence. This, he stated, continued over the years as the youth enabled the party to reinvent itself through the promotion of young people.
“The SWAPO party is cognisant of the fact that young people must play an integral role whether in industry, in communities, in military (or) in education because they are the catalyst for revolution. However, revolution can only take place where there are those who are not afraid of making sacrifices,” he said.
Geingob also advised the youth to focus on developing the mental fortitude and innate characteristics required to bring about progress. He further encouraged the youth to learn from other countries that have achieved economic independence and highlighted the Republic of China in this regard.
Attributing the development of China to the hard work, patriotism and global vision of China’s youth, the president stated that it is clear that the enlightenment of China’s youth played an integral role in China’s development.
He quoted an article that was published by the State Council Information Office of China entitled Youth of China in the new era, and said the “youth is the most active and vital force in society. The hopes of a country and the future of a nation lie in the hands if its young generation”.
“In the year of reimaging, the youth of Namibia must be the architects to design and reimage our nation. You, our young characters, should be at the forefront of reshaping our country because you are the most active and vital force in our society,” the president said.
