Namibian cops praised for fighting cross-border crime

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) chairperson, general Sehlahle Masemola, says Namibia has been instrumental in fighting cross-border crime.

Masemola was speaking on Tuesday during a visit by a SARPCCO delegation to the Namibian Police headquarters in Windhoek.

He commended Namibia for its active role in regional and inter-regional Interpol-organised operations.

“Cross-border crime can best be tackled jointly as shown by the past operations that have yielded commendable results,” Masemola said.

He added that it is pleasing that Namibia has been present at all meetings held at regional level and has contributed to the formulation of regional strategies in fighting cross-border crime.

“We are thus urging Namibia to maintain the momentum,” Masemola said.

He said that the SARPCCO will be monitoring and evaluating progress made by Namibia, with a focus on the implementation of Interpol resolutions and SARPCCO decisions.

“We will also iron out impediments to international and regional police cooperation in the fight against transnational organised crime,” he added.
