Africa-Press – Namibia. SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) secretary Ephraim Nekongo has denounced “actions and different treatments towards imported counterfeit products in Namibia”.
This follows the Namibia Revenue Agency (Namra) destroying what it termed counterfeit goods, valued at N$5 million, which it claimed were imported illegally by Namibian entrepreneurs.
The destroyed items included clothes, shoes, perfumes and bags.
“Secondly, SPYL calls on Namra to investigate the public’s concern and to ensure there is equal treatment in how the issue of counterfeit products is dealt with countrywide. Namra must ensure an increase in public awareness on their mandate, and the dos and don’ts around business activities of these nature,” Nekongo said on social media.
His comments follow the Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters closing down businesses in Windhoek’s China Town yesterday, and police clashing with demonstrators earlier today.
There have been several arrests, while journalists and other innocent bystanders, including a pregnant woman, were allegedly shot with rubber bullets.
