Africa-PressNamibia. A TRUCK that was transporting frozen chicken from the port of Walvis Bay to the Democratic Republic of the Congo was completely destroyed when it burst out in flames. The truck was on its way from Rundu to Divundu when it suddenly caught fire.

According to reports from the scene, the driver managed to bring the truck to a stop near the Mukwe village about 65 kilometres outside Divundu before escaping the inferno with minor injuries. The driver was taken to the nearest health facility where he received treatment for minor burn wounds.

Burning diesel that leaked out of the vehicle’s fuel tanks ignited the surrounding grass and bushes, but the fire was brought under control before too much damage was sustained by local farmers.

The actual cause of the fire is currently being investigated, but it is suspected that a mechanical defect on one of the truck’s trailer axles could have caused the vehicle to burst out in flames.
