Africa-Press – Namibia. Six members of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) were sworn in as members of the National Assembly on Monday.
The new members of parliament are Charmaine Tjirare, Reggie Diergaardt, Yvette Araes, Maximalliant Katjimune, Mike Venaani and Hidipo Hamata.
Their swearing-in follows on a Supreme Court ruling last week in which the election of six previous PDM members of the National Assembly was declared invalid.
The six members who were removed as parliamentarians are Esmerelda !Aebes, Geoffrey Mwilima, Pieter Mostert, Johannes Martin, Kazeongere Tjeundo and Timotheus Shihumbu.
The court ordered that they should vacate their seats in the National Assembly, as they had not been on the PDM’s candidate list when the last National Assembly election was held in November 2019.
The six members sworn in on Monday were on the candidate list for the election, in which the PDM won 16 seats in the National Assembly.
