Africa-Press – Namibia. CITY of Windhoek firefighters are currently battling a fire that started in the mountains north-east of Eros.
“The team was able to keep the fire from spreading towards the city, and the area on the northern, western and southern side of the fire has been contained,” the City of Windhoek said in a statement a short while ago.
It said residents, particularly those in Olof Palme and Kuiseb streets, should be vigilant when the fire jumps towards their properties, and should inform the emergency control room at 061 211 111 as soon as they notice the fire approaching.
“Residents with thatched roofs should activate their sprayers and have their garden hoses ready.
“The firefighting team is hard at work to try and contain the fire, despite strong wind and thick vegetation.
“There is firefighting crew on standby patrolling between Eros and Ludwigsdorf,” the statement said.
