Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA enjoyed a successful outing at the recent South African and All Africa Waterski Championships 2022 in Stellenbosch.

The Namibian team amassed 17 medals for the South African Championships, and 27 medals for the All Africa Championships, which took place between 13 and 15 May.

Lexine Mills, Morne Mostert, Kyron Sprake, Luke Schmidt, Jean-Paul Wehnert, Jeane Kamfer, team captain Andre Mostert, and Martin Schmidt as team manager represented the country with distinction.

Namibia was second overall for the All Africa Championships, monopolising the men’s division podium positions with Sprake, Schmidt and Morne Mostert placing in that order.

In the women’s division, Kamfer was second overall.

The highlight for Namibia was arguably the excellent showing by Sprake, who skied two buoys on a 11,25 metre rope at a boat speed of 58 km/h, which was close to improving the Namibian Open record, held by Gary Knight since 2005.

The competition between Sprake and Schmidt was close for the overall position, but Morne Mostert surprised everyone to finish third, as studying full-time has given him very little time to train.

Mills and Andre Mostert unfortunately suffered injuries during the championships, and were unable to perform at their best.

“The practice rounds were challenging given the typical Cape winter weather. Fortunately the weather improved for the championship days, allowing for some really good skiing and tough competition,” the Namibia Skiing Association said in a statement.

The Namibian teams’ results are as follows:
