Africa-Press – Namibia. DEPUTY Minister of Urban and Rural Development Natalia /Goagoses has urged leaders of local and regional authorities to suspend non-performing Chief Regional Officers (CROs) and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) but to do so by the book to avoid lawsuits.

“Don’t just dream of suspending but do it procedurally, she told leaders at a recent meeting in Oshakati.

/Goagoses said councillors should not interfere in the day-to-day operation of the council but may intervene.

She said politicians and administrative staff should strive to create a good working culture not based on nepotism, tribalism, racism and any existing negative ism.

Infighting between politicians and administrative staff should be condemned and professional conduct and debates should be upheld, she said.

/Goagoses stated that many of their sub-national government offices are falling behind with their service delivery mandate.

Instead of focusing on council infighting, it is their responsibility as political office bearers to follow through on their pledges, she said.

She added that peace, love and harmony should be the order of the day in any Town Council if they are to ensure service delivery. “How does one expect to lead when they don’t even sit at one table and talk?”

Oshakati Mayor Leonard Hango said he noticed on numerous occasions institutions handle matters inappropriately, especially with appointments and suspensions of CROs and CEOs.

“We need to conduct our work in an orderly and appropriate way to excel and improve the living conditions of our people, by avoiding any issues that will affect service delivery to our communities,” he added.

Omusati Regional Council chairperson Andreas Shintama said the issue of suspensions needs to be addressed in the whole country.

“Suspension of CROs and CEOs is a major concern causing havoc while our residents are suffering,” he said, adding that people need to refocus their energy on service delivery.
