Etosha fire threatens several farms

Africa-PressNamibia. A BUSHFIRE that has been raging for several days in the southern part of the Etosha National Park is now threatening to destroy commercial farms bordering it.

The fire has already moved into the farming area and desperate farmers are calling on their fellows and members of the community to assist them in battling the blaze because they have not received any assistance from the Namibia Wildlife Resorts or the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism.

Farms under threat of being set alight by the fire on the southern border of the national park are Farm Obab, Farm Heliodor, Farm Nadubib, Farm Leeudrink, Mokuti Lodge, Klein Etosha and Onguma Lodge. All the grazing on Farm Nooitgedacht and part of Farm Lohme have already been destroyed.

Desperate farmers have already started pre-burning strips of the bush bordering the national park in order to keep the flames from their property, but with strong winds, the fire might still spread and sow its indiscriminate destruction.
