Africa-Press – Namibia. MINISTER of Works and Transport John Mutorwa has on Friday officially opened the Okatana-Ongwediva road in the Oshana Region.
Mutorwa said the road will significantly reduce congestion between Oshakati and Ongwediva as residents from Oshakati, Ongwediva, Ehenye and Ekuku which provide shorter and convenient route to Oshakati and Endola towards Oshikango, Onhuno and Eenhana.
“This will decrease road incidents and enable road users to get to their destinations safely and in a shorter time frame,” he said.
In addition, Mutorwa indicated that the upgraded road will also stimulate economic growth in the northern regions in terms of moving goods and services and also enhancing the agricultural sector.
Further, he stated that the Okatana-Ongwediva road was constructed at the tune of about N$ 15 million that was funded by government via the Road Funds Administration.

Road Authority (RA) Chief Executive Officer Conrad Lutombi, stated that the Okatana-Ongwediva road is an important asset that will contribute to the flow of goods and services in the region.
Lutombi emphasised that good road network facilities growth and by extension, contributes to national prosperity.
Lutombi said they are currently busy with the Omatando-Onamutayi road. However, they previously faced challenges with accessing material for the ongoing upgrading to low volume seal of the road.
“The issue has since been resolved and significant progress was made on the project,” he said.
Lutombi stated that the RA is re-gravelling three roads under their three-year programme which are the Adolf-Ongha, Okapya-Onakamwandi and Okapya-Okaku-Ohalushu.
In addition, the Okatana to Onamutyi-Ongha, Oluno-Uukwiyuushona and Oshakati-Ompundja projects are on RA plans to be upgraded to low volume seal standards in the current financial year, depending on funds availability.
Oshana governor Elia Irimari, urged the inhabitants of the region to be patient, stating that development will sure be brought to their doorstep.
He singled out people living between Oshakati and Oshikuku, who complain of no road infrastructure development, to be patient as development is being done on a sail pace.
