Africa-Press – Namibia. RE-ELECTED Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) secretary in the Kavango East region, Anselm Marungu, has warned young people in the region not to be misled by fly-by-night political parties based on anger, frustration and power-hungry people.

He was re-elected as the youth wing’s regional secretary for a second term over the weekend.

Marungu was first elected as regional secretary in 2017, serving the region for five years.

The regional elective conference was held at Swapo’s regional office at Rundu.

Speaking to The Namibian yesterday, Marungu said he felt honoured to be re-elected as the youth wing’s regional secretary, saying the party remains the only one able to solve the problems of young people in the country.

Marungu said Swapo remains the youth’s political home.

He said his re-election is due to young people in the region trusting in him and his leadership, since he has been addressing youth issues.

“I am for the youth. Whatever young people are facing, I’m facing too. So we have to address it together.

“We are driving the youth agenda to address some of those challenges – more especially youth unemployment,” he said.

Marungu said the elders of the party were once young people, and they have done what they could.

“… and we respect them for that. The youth must also come in to redefine our journey, and we must remain in the revolutionary party to define our political and economic journey,” he said.

Bibiana Shapi was elected as regional mobiliser, while Rauna Ntjamba was elected as regional treasurer.

Additional members are the chairperson of the Kavango East Youth Forum, Moses Shikerete, Ervin Likoro, the regional chairperson of the Namibia National Students Organisation, Clementine Rufus, and Cecilia Hausiku.

Meanwhile, SPYL secretary Efraim Nekongo congratulated the elected leadership at both district and branch sections, saying they were not elected because they were liked, but because “the people trusted them, and they have become servants of the people”.

“It’s just not about being a member of the SPYL, it is up to us to go and work hard to influence our leaders to change the conditions of our people, especially in the Kavango East.

“I have asked them to also look at the opportunities available in the region,” Nekongo said.
