MINISTER of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, has urged regional governors to each start identifying one economic hub within their areas, for the purpose of development and growth of their respective regions.

Uutoni made these remarks during the official opening of the governors’ forum held in Katima Mulilo of Zambezi Region on Monday.

The Minister said they need not to isolate themselves, but rather than have their presences be felt by the people they serve.

“Some of the governors are a bit reluctant. Take over the region, show leadership and if local authorities are not performing take them to books,” he said.

Uutoni, who singled out the Bukalo Town Council, said they are not performing and all they want is intervention from the line ministry without consulting their leadership.

He further emphasised that they need to focus on one developmental project at a time, adding that people want to see visibility in terms of development in a region.

In order to ensure service delivery, Uutoni urged the governors to all times guard against any acts of tribalism or regionalism, which are detrimental to the development of their communities and regions.
