Africa-Press – Namibia. TransNamib Holding Limited chairperson Lionel Matthews and vice chairperson Sigrid Tjijorokisa have both resigned from the board with immediate effect in letters dated 17 August.
TransNamib Holding Limited chairperson Lionel Matthews and vice chairperson Sigrid Tjijorokisa have both resigned from the board with immediate effect in letters dated 17 August.
Matthews, who doubles as the director of the holding company, says part of the reason for his resignation is Tjijorokisa’s insistence on removing the current CEO Johny Smith.
“It also appears this view is held (although implicitly) by the current deputy chair, who also chaired the board for the past three years or so. The fights between her and the CEO are well reported in the media,” Matthews said.
Meanwhile, Tjijorokisa said one of the reasons for her resignation is that the current board is no longer acting in the best interests of the organisation, nor are the directors exercising their fiduciary responsibilities.
“I am willing to reconsider this position, provided that the current board is removed and a new board is appointed that embraces proper governance principles,” she added.
