Mines ministry suspends fuel wholesale and retail license applications

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE ministry of mines and energy has announced that it will with immediate effect no longer accept applications for licenses for new fuel retail sites as well as wholesale licenses until further notice.

Andreas Simon, the spokesperson of the ministry of mines stated that it is the mandate of the ministry to ensure that fuel wholesalers and retailers are licensed to ensure security of fuel supply as well as an orderly supply of petroleum products into Namibia.

To that end, Simon said that the ministry has noted with concern that both fuel wholesale and retail markets are highly saturated with licenses.

He further explained that this situation has created problems that ultimately lead to high fuel prices in the country.

“The ministry is therefore announcing that effective from the date of this notice, the ministry will not accept applications for fuel retail sites and wholesale licenses nationwide until further notice. The ministry will however make exemptions for applications for fuel consumer installation certificates and any other license amendments,” Simon concluded.
