Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Walvis Bay Private High School donated textbooks to Walvis Bay government schools on Tuesday.

The school indicated its willingness to help its neighbouring schools to the acting Walvis Bay circuit inspector, Joseph Martin, at a meeting earlier this year.

According to Martin, the news was received with great joy as government schools need many resources, particularly textbooks.

“I told the school that we were happy as we really need books. I shared the news with primary and secondary school teachers who indicated their needs. Today, all principals will walk away with books for their pupils. It is really a relief. We cannot thank this school enough.” he said.

Walvis Bay Private High School principal Henjan van der Heide said it felt good to be able to help the neighbouring schools.

“We had a lot of books in excess that are not used. We usually make sure that new versions are available for our pupils. We decided to give the ones that we are not using to our neighbours instead of recycling or throwing them away,” he said.

The books, which were handed over at a principals’ meeting at the Walvis Bay Private High School, include 800 primary and 661 secondary school books.

Subjects include mathematics, life science, biology and English for high schools and mathematics, social studies, English and Afrikaans for primary schools.

The school is also known to assist neighbouring schools with tables when needed.
