Africa-Press – Namibia. ENVIRONMENT minister Pohamba Shifeta has rejected claims that he was nominated for the Swapo vice president position.
ENVIRONMENT minister Pohamba Shifeta has rejected claims that he was nominated for the Swapo vice president position.
The Namibian reported that Shifeta was nominated at the party’s politburo meeting for the vice presidency but failed to go through because his candidature was not seconded.
The minister said that version is not true.
“I never stood as any candidate at the politburo. I was never nominated. That is the fact. It was my decision not to stand at the politburo,” Shifeta said.
The minister could still be nominated at the upcoming central committee meeting over the weekend.
Deputy prime minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila were nominated for the Swapo vice president position at a politburo meeting of the party on Monday.
The politburo meeting will be followed by a central committee meeting on Saturday (10 September), where the final decision on who will stand for the top Swapo positions will be taken.
