Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA’s Junior Women’s Inline Hockey team qualified for the final in style after beating Argentina 8-1 on Saturday.

Argentina took a surprise early lead but Namibia soon asserted their dominance and took the lead after two goals in two minutes by Lomarie Fourie.

Namibia kept on attacking and another two goals in two minutes by Maike Dedig and Leighzene Coetzee put them 4-1 up by halftime.

Namibia sealed their victory with three early goals in the second half, as Christine Rottcher, Coetzee and Lana Bajorat all scored within three minutes.

Rottcher added her second goal in the closing minutes to give Namibia a comprehensive 8-1 win and a place in the final where they will take on the United States, who beat Colombia 5-2 in the other semifinal. The match takes place at 20h00 Namibian time on Sunday evening and will be screened on worldskategames.tv

Earlier, Namibia completed their first round group matches with another comprehensive 14-1 victory against Italy.

Christine Rottcher was the star player, scoring seven goals, while the other scorers were Ania Borstlap (3), Ieesha Hilukiluah, Leighzene Coetzee (2), and Jada Tati.

Namibia won all their group matches, scoring a total of 58 goals and conceding only five. Christine Rottcher finished the round robin section as the top scorer with 21 goals and 8 assists. In fact, Namibia holds

the top seven scorers in the entire division.

Coach Brian Sobel said: “While we are happy with the round robin, a new win or go home tournament starts tomorrow. So, we must stay focused and be ready for whatever teams throw at us. This group of ladies has been amazing so far, and have their sights set on playing the best hockey they can and making Namibia proud.”
