Africa-Press – Namibia. THE 2021 MTC Summer Cup 2 200m champion, Starlile, is said to be in exceptional form to put on another sterling performance at the Okahatjipara Turf Club in the Okondjatu constituency on Saturday.

While Starlile is arguably the headline act, the rest of the line-up is expected to deliver in making it another memorable event, said Okahandja Racing Club executive member Sweety Zamuee, at the competition’s launch yesterday.

“Starlile is very ready for the showdown and we will feature six horses challenging for the placement on the podium,” Zamuee said.

“For those who are wondering if Starlile will be in action, yes, the champion will be strutting its prowess and is in good form to deliver,” said Zamuee.

The competition’s hosts, Professor Supporters Club (PSC), added that MTC’s investment in horse racing had been tremendous for the sport’s development.

MTC has injected N$300 000, with N$250 000 earmarked for prize money.

“Let me invite all other sponsors to come on board and invest in the horse racing infrastructure to grow the sport,” said PSC club founding member Timo Muzeu.

Meanwhile, the Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA) vice president, Manus Hendricks, said the turf is in a perfect condition for racing.

Partly cloudy weather is forecast for Saturday, making it near-perfect conditions for the horses and the jockeys.

The event has attracted a record 80 horses vying for honours in the respective races.

“The aim of NHRA is to ensure that horse racing is inclusive by taking the sport to each region of the country,” Hendricks said.

The event is scheduled to kick off at 10h00 with the main event billed for later in the afternoon on the day.
