Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA is in the semi-finals of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Knockout World Cup, thanks to star fighter Veja Hinda.

The competition is decided by Mixed Martial Arts fans on the IMMAF Instagram channel, where fans vote for their favourite knockout from the past several years. It is part of the IMMAF 10th anniversary programme.

Namibia made the semis on Monday, courtesy of Hinda’s spectacular first round head kick KO of Mauritius’ Geraldo Moïse at the Africa Championships in South Africa in May.

The Sousa MMA Studios product went on to win the featherweight gold, completing a memorable continental championships debut.

His stunning effort is up against that of Angola’s Maurio Silva, who scored a flash knockout over South Africa’s Nathanial Komana to win the African bantamweight gold medal.

The other semi-final clash is between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, with the final set for November 30. The winners will be honoured at the 2023 Amateur MMA Awards, taking place at the 2022 World Championships in Serbia early next year.

Hinda will headline the Namibian team consisting of Africa IMMAF bronze medallist Geraldo Bok, Eduardo Platt, Damian Muller, Arno Jacob and Ronaldo Feris.

The IMMAF KO World Cup format is similar to that of the Fifa World Cup, starting with the round of 16. The tournament is not limited to a range of dates and will feature some of the greatest knockouts in IMMAF history.

The participating nations are Angola, South Africa and Namibia from Africa; with Bahrain, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan representing Asia. Europe has England, France, Ukraine and Poland in the competition, while Oceania interest comes from Australia, French Polynesia and New Zealand.

Pan America has Brazil, Mexico and the United States in the competition.

The participating teams were selected based on achievements and rankings of national teams at continental and world championships, and quality of knockouts in IMMAF competition.
