Chief Walaula wants expansion of Onandjaba health centre

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE head of the Ombadja Traditional Community, Chief Mathias Walaula, is requesting the health ministry to consider expanding the health centre at Onandjaba to thereby enhance and broaden service delivery to the people.

He made the request to minister Kalumbi Shangula during the handing over of prefabricated structures at the Omuvelo Wakasamane border post on Friday.

Chief Walaula said the number of people who receive health services at the Onandjaba health centre is increasing every day.

Currently, the catchment population of the health centre stands at about 50 694.

“We humbly request the ministry to expand our health centre at Onandjaba into a district hospital,” he requested.

He added that once expanded it would be able to efficiently provide emergency health services to people with long-term or chronic illnesses such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS and also provide other essential services that are currently unavailable.

Walaula indicated that the traditional authority has already provided land for their health centre which is big enough to also accommodate a district hospital.

He expressed hope that request would attract the usually favourable response from the government.

In response, minister Shangula said that government will look into Walaula’s plea.

He assured the community that their request shall be assessed in order to see how best to make health services easily accessible to inhabitants of Onandjaba and the surrounding area.
