Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA Correctional Services of Mariental took a two-point lead in the Southern Stream First Division after collecting maximum points over the weekend.
Going in to the weekend’s matches, Khomas Nampol held a one-point lead over NCS at the top of the log, and both teams won their matches at the Mariental Showgrounds on Saturday to set up an enticing showdown on Sunday. NCS turned on the style to beat DTS 4-2, while Khomas Nampol beat Mariental Sport Club 1-0 at the same venue.
On Sunday, NCS and Khomas Nampol met in a top of the log clash and Nampol suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 2-1 in a close encounter.
NCS’ former Black Africa midfielder Warren Pofadder scored both their goals, while Jan Vries replied for Nampol.
The result saw NCS replacing Khomas Nampol at the top of the log on 15 points, while Nampol dropped down to second position, two points behind.
Dates Eleven of the Naute Dam area near Keetmanshoop moved up to third position on 12 points, despite losing their opening match of the weekend to Blue Boys in Swakopmund on Saturday.
Dates Eleven seemed set for victory when they took a 3-1 half time lead, but Blue Boys stormed back after the break to win the match 4-3.
Blue Boys’ goal scorers were Wakendisa Kahimise, Thomas Kaambo, Thomas Andreas and Gabriel Shemuvalula.
Dates Eleven, however, bounced back with a 4-1 victory against Spoilers in Okahandja on Sunday, to move up to third position on the log on 12 points.
Blue Boys collected maximum points after beating Try Again 2-0 on Sunday, with Shemuvalula and Christiaan Doeseb scoring their goals.
That win saw Blue Boys moving up to fourth position on the log on 11 points.
Mariental Sport Club, meanwhile, moved up to fifth position on eight points, just ahead of DTS Hopsol on goal difference, after beating the latter team 2-1 on Sunday.
Tia Gaingob and Honoratius Mouton scored for Mariental, while Ivan Bloom replied for DTS.
Try Again, meanwhile, scored an injury time winner to beat Spoilers 1-0 in Okahandja on Saturday.
Relf Karigub scored the winning goal which puts Try Again level with Spoilers on seven points on the log.
Ramblers have had a poor start to the league, after collecting only two points from their previous four matches, but their luck finally turned as they collected four points over the weekend.
On Saturday they made a great comeback to beat Western Spurs 4-2.
Spurs took an early lead through goals by Akio van Wyk and Elrico Januarie within the first ten minutes, but Ramblers weathered the storm and gradually got back into the game.
Raymondo Stern opened their account from the penalty spot after a foul in the box, while Xavier McClune drew them level early in the second half.
Ramblers piled on the pressure and took the lead for the first time when Rowen Jager stabbed a loose ball into the net, while McClune grabbed his second goal, when he followed up a parried shot to put it into an empty net.
The next day Ramblers recorded another victory, beating Northern Stars 1-0, with Jack Parker scoring the winning goal midway through the second half.
The results see Ramblers joining Northern Stars on six points on the log, while Windhoek United (5) and Western Spurs (1) are now at the bottom of the log.
