In late December, three people died in a head-on collision which involved police chief inspector general Joseph Shikongo.
National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi has confirmed that Shikongo was driving his private vehicle at the time of the accident.
Shikongo was rushed to the Ongwediva MediPark Hospital and was discharged last week.
He was involved in a car accident on 30 December when he was driving his private vehicle on the Oshikango-Ondangwa road near Indangungu village in the Oshana region.
The head-on collision occurred between Shikongo’s white Toyota Hilux double cab and a white Hyundai.
All three occupants in the Hyundai died instantly.
They were identified as Sofia Ananias (22), Fransa Ndengu (27) and Stefanus Shahafinge (age unknown).
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
Family members probed for murder
The Zambezi regional police are investigating the alleged murder of Johnny Zambwe (56), who died as a result of the injuries he sustained during a fight in the Chinchimane area on Tuesday.
Regional crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Kenneth Simbwae last week said Zambwe allegedly started fighting with his sister Miyaze Zambwe (45), and stabbed her five times.
In attempts to stop him from further injuring her, Zambwe’s niece and brothers beat him.
He sustained serious head injuries which led to his death.
“Both Miyaze and Zambwe were rushed to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital. However, Zambwe succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, and Miyaze has since been discharged.
“No arrests have been made yet as police investigations are still ongoing,” he said.

The minister of gender equality, poverty eradication and social welfare, Doreen Sioka, says the 88-year-old from the Oshikoto region who allegedly raped a three-year-old girl, resulting in her death, must be denied bail and must remain in custody.
Gustav Willem from Okahanya village in the Oshikoto region stands accused of the rape and murder of a minor, and has appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court.
His case was postponed to 3 April for further police investigations.
Willem was remanded in custody.
The incident took place in December.

A three-month-old baby was allegedly found dead in bed by her mother at a day-care centre at Swakopmund.
Erongo regional commander for community affairs Ileni Shapumba said the baby was fine when her mother dropped her off at the centre.
“During midday, the caregiver allegedly fed her until she slept. She then allegedly laid her down on a mattress and covered her with a blanket,” Shapumba said.

The body of Antonio Hermanus (17), who drowned at Walvis Bay’s Independence Beach on Christmas Day, was recovered on New Year’s Day.
According to an incident report issued by the Erongo police, the boy’s body was discovered at about 08h00 at Marlus Fishing Company’s pier by an employee of the company.
Hermanus, a Grade 10 pupil at Flamingo Secondary School, and his mother were at Independence Beach when he went for a swim.
While swimming, he allegedly stopped and seemed to be standing in one place a distance from the shore.
