Africa-Press – Namibia. A TOTAL of 50 unemployed young people from 14 regions will be receiving business and financial training through the MTC 4Life program.
The program is a new MTC CSI initiative — a socio-economic undertaking embarked on to mitigate youth unemployment by empowering Namibians to become self-employed within the SME sector.
MTC Public Relations Officer, Erasmus Nekundi said upon completion, all the trainees will receive start-up toolkits to allow them to start their own micro businesses immediately after training.
In 2022, a total of 8 000 unemployed youth applied for the project, following the call for applications last year on the MTC 4Life program.
Nekundi said, thus far the program is well on track, the vetting and shortlisting process was completed and all prospective candidates were informed mid-December last year for their interviews.
“The interviews will be conducted this month to enable the program training to commence early next month as planned,” he said.
He added that the candidates will be offered training in 10 trades, and for each trade, 20 applicants have been shortlisted for interviews.
Overall, Nekundi indicated that the initiative’s first intake is capacitated to accommodate and assist 50 candidates.
He noted that the 10 trades in which training will be offered are: photography, graphic design, barber, hairdressing, nail technician, make-up artist, catering, baking, sewing, and brick manufacturing, respectively.
“And for each trade, MTC has partnered with a reputable and previously disadvantaged SME Namibian company within that profession to provide the individual candidates with the practical training,” he said.
He added that the training duration will be between 3 to 10 days depending on the trade.
