Africa-PressNamibia. ACCESSIBILITY to decent housing reduces stress and leads to improved mental health, while also creating a conducive environment for parents to raise their children appropriately.

This was spelled out by the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) Board Chairperson, Sam Shivute, yesterday while handing over 40 houses to residents of Okakarara in the Otjozondjupa Region.

The low cost houses were constructed by NHE through a public private partnership. Shivute expended that there is a direct relationship between decent housing and mental health, as well as better parenting.

According to Shivute, they are celebrating housing solutions which are in many ways a blueprint for the future of housing development in Namibia and that this will help in stimulating national development through the provision of affordable and quality housing solutions in a holistic and responsible manner.

“We at NHE understand all too well what home ownership means to these families. A sense of pride, joy and excitement sparkles in their minds and hearts. Studies tells us that home ownership contributes to improved educational outcomes and reduce household poverty. Families are more secure, and communities are more stable,” said Shivute.

As such, NHE recognises and is committed to creating healthy communities with the provision of affordable, well-designed houses for the growth and development of low to middle-income families that find it difficult and sometimes impossible to acquire houses constructed strictly by private developers.

“I therefore encourage public and private sector players in housing matters to work with NHE in transforming our society through these kind of symbiotic and synergistic partnerships. We acknowledge the commitment and dedication from the various stakeholders for teaming up with us in delivering these houses to the community of this town,” he concluded.
